Nanoparticle Radiographic Contrast Agents

Nanoparticles have been shown to be preferentially uptaken into tumor tissue due to the Enhanced Permeability and Retention effect (EPR). If particles are kept above the renal clearance limit of approximately 5nm, contrast agents will continue to circulate in the blood pool until they are removed by the liver or accumulate in tissue. We are currently investigating gold and iodine based nanoparticles and liposomes for cancer and vulnerable plaque targeting.
